This semester, my team designed Maison Nuee, a six-look adaptive collection created specifically for individuals living with ALS. Our goal was to merge accessibility and style, proving that adaptive fashion can be both functional and empowering. We had the privilege of collaborating with inspiring industry leaders and advocates, including Dr. Richard Bedlack at the Duke ALS Clinic, Maura Horton, founder of MagnaReady, and Cone Denim.
A special thank you to Samantha Pearce, who structured this course to truly prepare us for the professional world. Her mentorship, guidance, and dedication to connecting students with real industry partners made this experience transformational.
Throughout the semester, we communicated directly with members of the ALS community, conducted feasibility testing, and received live industry feedback from prototype to final garment. This experience challenged me creatively and technically in ways I had never experienced before.
This project reinforced my belief that fashion has the power to solve real problems and serve communities thoughtfully. I am so grateful for the mentorship, professional insight, and connections that will stay with me as I pursue the next chapter of my career.
